Our Angels

A tribute to the people whose generosity, courage, and love have left a lasting mark on Brains Get Famous and on the lives of the people we support.

TERESA MEJÍAS

BGF CO-FOUNDER & HONORARY MEMBER

Teresa, co-founder of the NGO and an honorary member, has been one of the most generous donors we have ever had. She pursued specialized studies in geriatrics and palliative care and has dedicated a large part of her life to helping the most disadvantaged people. She has extensive experience as a volunteer in various international organizations and has offered her services and knowledge to the International Red Cross and the Teresian Sisters.

She is the driving force behind the bread collection campaign for numerous shelters, an initiative that raises funds to help feed the residents of these centers. For several years, Teresa served as a volunteer nurse during the pilgrimage to Our Lady of Lourdes and has collaborated in organizing theater and dance workshops for residents of nursing homes and orphanages.

She has also devoted part of her free time to organizing cooking days, distributing meals and food to different schools, nursing homes, and households facing economic difficulties, and she has funded the education of young people with limited resources. Teresa also welcomed homeless individuals into her own home for periods of time.

She created the well-known wool dolls to accompany patients. For the children of our NGO, she knitted dolls using special materials so they could be taken along during MRI scans. Her daily concern and the affection she showed, together with her generous donations, made it possible for many of our children to receive better care and continue their education at their schools.

Teresa’s contribution to BGF is immeasurable. Her mark and legacy continue not only in a special place in our hearts, but also in our actions.

MARÍA LENDÍNEZ

BGF PATIENT AND FRIEND

Maria was not only one of our patients but also one of our most active ambassadors and

partnerts within the NGO. Her involvement with other patients from her perspective and personal experience gaved BGF the necessary realism to deal more accurately with other cases. In addition, her experience in the world of sport facilitates the design of our therapies.

ANDI PEEL

BGF PATIENT AND FRIEND

Andi Peel, Leicester, United Kingdom. An incredible, intelligent, and wonderful person, and a good friend of María, our president. Andi was a fundamental support for her during the early years of the NGO. When María asked Linda, Andi’s mother, to write something for our website, Linda replied: “He was my world, my everything, and I will always love and miss him.”

ELİF ATAR

BGF PATIENT AND FRIEND

Elif Atar was born in Istanbul on September 15, 2010.

Her favorite song was “Believer” by Imagine Dragons, and her favorite color was the rainbow.

Elif loved dancing and singing.

ROCHELLE GATNER

BGF PATIENT AND FRIEND

Rochelle was a talented Canadian dancer and choreographer. She was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme but did not allow it to make her miss a single step. She spoke about the fortitude with which she faced it.

She had been involved with the NGO since its inception in 2021. She was one of the people who inspired María, our president, to set up Brains Get Famous. Rochelle had a huge influence on María from the moment they met in 2020.

Maria considered closing the NGO following Rochelle’s passing; however, for her sake and in her honour, and to fulfil both their dreams and plans, our president continues the work of raising awareness and providing support for brain tumour patients.

Rochelle, through her example of courage and love for life and family, will remain with the NGO forever.
