Professional Experience

Dr. Pedrosa completed his accredited residency training in Neurosurgery at Hospital Puerta de Hierro in Madrid from 1994 to 1998. He ranked fourth in the 1994 selection examination for a neurosurgery residency position.

From 1999 to 2000, he worked as a medical specialist in the Neurosurgery Department at Hospital Puerta de Hierro.

Since 2000, he has served as a medical specialist in the Neurosurgery Department at Hospital Universitario de La Princesa in Madrid.

From 2008 to 2011, he worked as a neurosurgeon at Hospital Montepríncipe and Hospital Madrid Norte Sanchinarro, part of the Hospitales de Madrid Group.

Since 2011, he has also worked as a neurosurgeon at Hospital Universitario Sanitas La Moraleja and Hospital Universitario Sanitas La Zarzuela in Madrid.

Specialist Surgical Experience

Dr. Pedrosa has focused his professional work on vascular surgery of the nervous system, cervical spine disorders, cranial nerve microsurgery, skull base surgery, and nervous system tumor microsurgery.

His specialist surgical experience includes:

• Cerebrovascular surgery, including aneurysms and cerebral arteriovenous malformations.
• Skull base surgery.
• Cranial nerve microsurgery, including the surgical treatment of trigeminal neuralgia.
• Microsurgery of tumors affecting the nervous system.
• Cervical spine surgery, including cervical arthroplasty and dynamic prosthetic techniques.
• Deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, epilepsy, and selected psychosurgical indications.

One of his greatest professional satisfactions is successfully performing highly complex procedures involving the nervous system and achieving positive outcomes for patients.

Scientific Activity

Dr. Pedrosa has authored more than 40 publications in national and international medical journals and specialist textbooks.

He has also presented more than 30 communications at national and international medical congresses within his field of specialization.

Teaching Experience

Dr. Pedrosa’s teaching activity includes:

• Tutor for Neurosurgery residents at Hospital Universitario de La Princesa.
• Clinical Teaching Collaborator at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
• Collaboration with the CTO Medicine Study Centre from 1995 to 2007, preparing candidates for the MIR examination and providing specialist teaching in Neurosurgery.

Training at Specialist Centers

Dr. Pedrosa completed a one-month clinical rotation at the Functional Neurosurgery Unit of Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, United States. This training focused on deep brain stimulation techniques for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

Additional Accreditation

He holds an accreditation certificate from the Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT), authorizing him to operate diagnostic X-ray facilities.

His Vision of Neurosurgery

Dr. Pedrosa believes that neurosurgery is moving toward increasingly less invasive treatments in which technology plays an ever-greater role.

He considers multidisciplinary collaboration essential to providing more comprehensive care, as it allows different techniques and medical perspectives to be combined when approaching complex conditions.

Throughout his professional career, he has observed the wide range of conditions treated by Neurosurgery and how technological advances have transformed the specialty, providing new solutions and levels of precision that were not possible until recently.

He emphasizes the growing importance of higher-resolution neuroimaging, optimal intraoperative support, and developments in gene therapy, immunology, and nanotechnology within the field of neuro-oncology. He also believes that the training of future specialists must evolve alongside these technological innovations.

Dr. Pedrosa recommends a heart-healthy diet and regular physical activity as fundamental measures for helping maintain the health of the nervous system and spine.

Although Neurosurgery is a fascinating profession, it is also highly demanding and carries enormous responsibility. In his free time, Dr. Pedrosa enjoys cinema and reading and has a particular interest in ancient history and astronomy.
