PRESIDENT AND CEO OF BGF
Born in Madrid (Spain), María de Kannon Clè is a Filmmaker, Writer and Producer, currently combining her work as a filmmaker with the presidency of the non-profit organisation, Brains Get Famous, which she founded in 2021. Maria after her studies in UK and Switzerland, came back to Madrid, Spain afer leaving in london and Los Angeles.
María began her production career at a very young age. In 2001, she founded her own production company and took charge of the production, direction, and presentation of the radio program ARTE 2 on Cibeles FM, a station owned by Luis del Olmo, one of Spain’s most acclaimed radio hosts and broadcasters.
ARTE 2 was dedicated to different artistic disciplines and featured interviews with renowned national and international guests. Through the program, María interviewed figures such as American director Steven Soderbergh, French actor and filmmaker Albert Dupontel, Argentine filmmaker Gaspar Noé, British singer and composer Garry Christian of The Christians, American bands Parker & Lily and Imperial Teen, American singer Elvis Perkins, British band Boedekka, German painter Thilo Heinzmann, German sculptor Tobias Rehberger, Spanish ballet dancer Víctor Ullate, Spanish actor Fernando Guillén, Spanish choreographer Eduardo Lao, Spanish actor José Coronado, Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen, German gallerist Heinrich Ehrhardt, Spanish fashion designer Modesto Lomba, and American actor Christian Slater, among others.
The success of the ARTE 2 program, together with the impression made by and the contact with this large group of artists, served as inspiration for María in creating the NGO, with the aim of helping patients, both children and adults, recover through neuroplasticity and the powerful effect of the arts and their many benefits, while also giving visibility to the cause through global movements and artistic events around the world.
In 2004, one of her scripts was selected by EGEDA and the Madrid Film Commission to be produced and to represent Spain at the LALIFF Film Festival.
In 2008, together with Spanish actress Ángela Molina, she organized an international film festival in Madrid. María directed the festival, which was supported by American director, writer, actor, and producer David Lynch; American producer and composer Quincy Jones; Spanish art director and production designer Gil Parrondo, the first Spaniard to win two Academy Awards; French production designer Alain Bainée; and American actor and producer Nick Nolte.
In 2011, she became International Ambassador of TAI, the International Art School of Cinema in Madrid, Spain.
In 2015, together with actor and director Michael Brando, she founded a branch of Brando Pictures in Spain, “Brando Pictures Spain,” with the intention of fulfilling the dream of Michael’s grandfather, Marlon Brando, of bringing to the cinema a version of Hamlet based on Marlon Brando’s ideas and notes.
In 2018, María became International Ambassador of the Seminci Film Festival under the direction of journalist Javier Angulo.
As a filmmaker and producer, María has worked with Hungarian cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond, American actor Matt Dillon, German filmmaker and actor Til Schweiger, Chilean artist Alejandro Jodorowsky, and American actor and producer Nick Nolte.
After her recovery, María resumed the film projects that had been put on hold due to her surgery.
María is currently in full production and development of the documentary film "Should I Stay or Should I Go?: An Amerian Dream", together with the BGF team, to raise awareness and funds. She is also designing the production, together with Spanish singer Mónica Molina, of the charity album Lonely Minds and the concert tour The Brains Rock Tour.
María promotes artistic activities for Brains Get Famous with the support of artists and friends, including many of the people who have worked with her before, as well as new artists and friends who have joined the NGO, forming a beautiful and motivating family.
Languages: Spanish, French, English, basic German and Italian language and intermediate level in Japanese.
Our mission
We aim to raise awareness for brain tumours and give visibility and a voice to brain tumour patiens and survivors through media and the arts, as well as our network of celebrities and brands.
We also aim to build both an emotional and logistical support network for brain tumourpatiens and survivors, helping them with free tests, doctors, experts, therapy and legal advice in the case of incorrect diagnoses. Additionally, we aim to provide donations to medical and scientific research in relation to brain tumours and to other charities whose causes we support.
Our activities
- Raise awareness in the public eye and in society about brain tumours and brain injuries and their side effects.
- Raise Funds: through our activities in the media, special events, and our sponsors to fulfil our mission and promises.
- Liaise with global leadership entities to invest greater efforts and resources into helping brain tumour and brain injury patients and combatting these illnesses and launching global campaigns for this cause.
- Guide those affected by brain tumours and injuries in understanding these diseases and helping them through their journeys.
- Establish a wide network of doctors, experts, hospitals and clinics and specializing centers in brain tumours and injuries to help patients.
- Support biomedical and clinical research, focusing on its application in diagnosis and treatment and encouraging cooperation between global scientific research entities.
